More Info

Monte Castello di Vibio is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.

In the heart of the town is a unique gem, the Concordia Theater: the smallest theater in the world, with 99 seats. Inaugurated in 1808, it was designed in the midst of the post-French Revolution climate and dedicated to “concord among peoples”: it was built by some of the town’s illustrious families to build Monte Castello a place for entertainment and reunions.

In the historic center, a faithful reproduction of a medieval fortified village, the following are worth seeing: the 15th-century Church of Sant’Illuminata or Santissimo Crocifisso, where a 15th-century wooden crucifix is venerated; the crenellated Tower of Porta di Maggio; the 19th-century Church of Saints Philip and James; and the 16th-century Chapel of the Madonna delle Carceri.

Also worth a visit are the remains of the Romanesque Abbey of San Lorenzo in Vibiata, the Abbey of Santa Maria in Monte, and the 17th-century Oratory of Santa Maria alle Rotelle, all in the vicinity of the Borgo.

From the terrace in Vittorio Emanuele II Square there is a wide and spectacular view, from where the mountains of Lazio and Abruzzo can also be seen.
