More Info

Agnone, the largest town in upper Molise, is known for bell-making and the production of extraordinary cheeses, as well as for the ‘Ndocciata, the world’s largest fire ritual.

The churches, from the Romanesque-Gothic period, are certainly worth a visit, if only because they preserve important works by artists such as Monteverde, Duprè, Gamba, and Colombo. Nuonno Palace, dating back to the 13th century, with its clearly Venetian-style lions, is also very beautiful, as are the old city gates and historic craft stores, making it an open-air museum.

But what makes this village world-famous is the “Museum of Agnone Bells,” which is accompanied by the Pontificia Fonderia di Campane Marinelli, which still produces its bells using the technique used since medieval times.

Another gem of this village is the “Agnone Copper Museum.”
