More Info
Morro d’Alba is a small town with very ancient origins located between Senigallia and Jesi, 200 meters above sea level. It preserves many vestiges of the past and is the only Italian fortified village to have a patrol walkway, the Scarpa, along all the walls, covered and lined with arches.
Beneath the city is a complex labyrinth of caves, dug over the centuries by the inhabitants, connected by tunnels, forming a kind of second underground city.
The most interesting tourist sites are: the Palazzo Comunale, which houses the picture gallery with important works; the Church of SS. Annunziata (now Auditorium); the Parish Church of San Gaudenzio, dating from the second half of the 18th century; and the Utensilia Museum, set up in the castle’s basement under the Scarpa, which boasts a large selection of tools and agricultural implements from the sharecroppers of the Marche region.
Morro d’Alba’s most famous product is the DOC Lacrima di Morro d’Alba wine made from the native lacrima vine and known since Roman times. It owes its name to the peculiar drop (called a teardrop) that emerges from the grape cluster when it ripens.
The main events that take place in Morro d’Alba throughout the year are: the “Lacrima Wine Festival,” held every first weekend in May; the “Cantamaggio,” which celebrates the advent of spring and the new agricultural season (every third weekend in May); and the “Festival of the Lacrima di Morro d’Alba and Acqualagna Truffle,” held every third weekend in October.
