Architecture and art, museums and nature, make Trento a wonderful travel destination.
Undoubtedly the political, religious and monumental center of the city is the Cathedral Square overlooked by splendid frescoed noble palaces such as the “Cazuffi-Rella Houses.” In this square, where St. Vigilius was buried, stands the eponymousDuomo di San Vigilio, in Romanesque style. The Praetorian Palace and the crenellated 13th-century Torre Vanga tower form together with the cathedral a spectacular complex that dominates the square, which is also adorned by the 18th-century Neptune fountain. Spectacle for the eye then the Buonconsiglio Castle, composed of a series of buildings from different eras, which houses several museums. Two distinctive buildings, both from the 1500s, are the red marble Church of St. Mary Major and the Tabarelli Palace on whose facade are carved 22 profiles of local historical figures. Finally, the Pona Geremia Palace from the sec. XV with its scenic facade, decorated with frescoes depicting episodes of city life and myths, and the Church of St. Apollinaris.
Another unmissable stop is MUSE, Trento’s Museum of Science, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano. Located within the “Le Albere” district, it opened in the summer of 2013 and replaced the Tridentine Museum of Natural Sciences. The building covers a total area of about 19,000 m² and six floors all to be discovered.
