More Info
Known as the least populous municipality on the Island and one of the least populated in Italy, it preserves unaltered traditions and natural and archaeological beauty.
The appearance is of a medieval village with numerous old “courtyard” houses.
probably that its origin is from Roman times, traces of which can be found in various areas. In particular at Cibixia there are the foundations of a large building, divided into 25 rooms, possibly intended for baths. Some graves containing amphorae and oil lamps were also found.
It is certain that its territory was inhabited since the Bronze Age, as evidenced by other nuraghi: the most important is the Candeu monotorre. Near the prehistoric monument is a fountain (also Nuragic), dug into the rock and rebuilt in later centuries. The water is used today in the Parish Church of St. Margaret the Martyr.
Two feasts a year are celebrated in honor of the patron patron saint of children: sa festa manna; the main one, in late May, and Santa Mragaida agattada (found) or de is cruguxionis (of ravioli) in mid-July, straddling two Sundays. The celebration is linked to the “Raviolo Festival.”
Around the village, there are two rural churches, Santa Maria and Santa Restituta, the municipal park, an attraction of a serene and quiet village, and many archaeological sites, of the Giara and Monte Arci.
