More Info

The historic center of Amandola, which is accessed through a crenellated gate, lies on three hills and consists of civil and religious architecture, imposing and sumptuous palaces, and hidden and graceful alleys. From the Belvedere you can have a wonderful view of the eastern side of the Sibillini Mountains National Park.

Of particular importance is Piazza Umberto I, or the upper square, the ancient social and religious core of the locality, which houses the historic “La Fenice” theater and the 15th-century tower of the Podesta. The church of St. Augustine, dating from the 14th century, has an 18th-century facade, a Gothic portal, and a bell tower by Mario Pietro Lombardo dating from 1468, with ogival mullioned windows with an octagonal spire. Sacred buildings also include the convent of San Bernardino, or Capuchin monastery, built in 1540, and the church of Santa Maria a Piè d’Agello.

Outside the gate is the Romanesque complex dedicated to Ss. Rufino and Vitale, and 5 km from the historic center stands the Abbey of Saints Vincent and Anastasius.

In autumn, “Diamonds at the Table,” the Sibillini Precious White Truffle Fair, is held. For nearly two decades, it has enlivened the historic center with food and wine stands full of truffle-scented dishes and traditional fare.

Recurring festivities include the Carnival de li Paniccia’ and, at the end of August, the Ancient Historical Re-enactment of the Canestrelle.
